As you ride past the line of office buildings on the bus, you’ll catch sight of several bustling shopping arcades. There’s the first arcade to have a marble pavement, Marble Road Omachi. Then there’s Vlandome Ichibancho, which holds a fashion event every year. More than 100 shops crowd the two streets in Bunka Yokocho and Iroha Yokocho. With its rich collection of unique malls, you’ll find a mixture of traditional shops and the latest stores, where you can experience traditional and modern Sendai alike, and shop and eat to your heart’s content. Just inside Tohoku’s first arcade mall, Sunmall Ichibancho, you’ll find Nonaka Shrine, which Date Masamune established as the center of the Sendai castle town about 400 years ago. Go on a search for this tiny shrine tucked between the downtown buildings.
