On the lush green Mt. Aoba, there is the Tohoku University Aobayama Campus (Departments of Engineering, Science, and Pharmacy), and the Miyagi University of Education. Near the station, in addition to the Tohoku University research-related facilities, there are spacious natural green areas such as Aoba no Moriryokuchi park and Mt. Aoba itself, as well as the new Aobayama Campus of Tohoku University (for the Department of Agriculture and research laboratories,) which is currently under construction.
