The Center of Sendai’s Unique
Business District
Hirose-dori Subway Station
Hirose-dori Avenue is the important east-west transportation axis of Sendai City. Nearby Clis Road shopping street boasts being the most visited in Tohoku, and is the main street for Sendai Tanabata Festival. Also within this business center is Mitakisanfudoin Temple. With Acala and Sendai Shiro, who actually existed, enshrined here, it is known as a temple where the gods of thriving business and peace and prosperity are enshrined. On the ginkgo lined streets of the Honcho shopping area are distinctive rows of shops with connecting eaves that have been given nicknames. Along one of these rows, Kagu no Machi (Furniture Town), is a shop you should visit: the long-established Sendai miso shop, Sasaju. The store shelves are filled with miso that has been passed down since Date Masamune’s time. Since they have an eat-in corner at the shop, we recommend you stop by for a break during your shopping.
