A Hydroelectric Power Station
from the Meiji Era that Still
Generates Today
Sankyozawa 100 Year Electric Historical Center
Sankyozawa is where hydroelectricity got its start in Japan. The Sankyozawa 100-Year Electric History Center was built to celebrate the establishment of electrical power in the Tohoku area. This center gives easy-to-understand explanations of the history of electricity, how it connects with our lives, and the nature around Mount Aoba and Hirosegawa River which support the power station. The neighboring Sankyozawa Hydroelectric Power Station first started running in 1910. You can view through glass the water wheels and power generators that continue to produce electricity even today.
